YNCU TEACH Grant

Lockdowns and school closures were a harsh reality of the pandemic. Even during the toughest times, teachers and schools found a way to be resourceful while navigating a new way of learning. They continued to provide a safe and supportive environment for their students, going above and beyond to ensure they continued to have access to quality education be it in the classroom or virtually.

Throughout the month of April, YNCU opened a nomination period followed by a voting period to recognize the efforts of the schools and teachers in our service areas. We are excited to announce the recipients of the YNCU Teach Grants.

Our two recipients of a $5,000 grant each in the school category are:

King Edward Public School

Kitchener

King Edward Public School is a smaller downtown school, with a diverse community where teachers and support staff are always there to help students and families. King Edward is a caring, community-driven school that fosters amazing relationships, and is always looking for ways to bring equality to the forefront and make all students feel included. KEPS goes above and beyond to make activities and events accessible to all students. They provided almost half of their students with laptops from the school to facilitate online learning. King Edward staff have called families who are struggling and offered their assistance and continued to support students both in-person and from a distance.

Queen Elizabeth Public School

Sault Ste. Marie

Regardless of the medium, Queen Elizabeth Public School teachers were able to engage their students in meaningful ways and go above and beyond, making time to be there and find ways to bond when traditional methods weren’t available. Additionally, the administration staff and principal have gone over and above regarding safety, being sure to check in with parents when policies change, or when there is potential for illness in the school.
