In February, during assemblies, students learned about the special kindness that Olympian  Gilmore Junio offered to his teammate. Gilmore sacrificed his own spot to compete in the speed skating event so that  his teammate, Denny Morrison, could race in the 1000m speed skating event. This selfless act led to Denny Morrison winning an Olympic Silver medal at the Sochi Winter Olympics.

Along with other students in the country, King Edward students donated  money for a special medal to be made to honour Gilmore Junio’s kindness. This medal was created by Jacknife Design. This medal will be presented to Gilmore Junio on Wednesday, May 14 at 9:10 am in the gym at a special assembly. Denny Morrison will also be in attendance and after the ceremony, they will be visiting some classes in the school.

King Edward P.S. staff and students are thrilled to be chosen as the location for this very special event. We will be hosting the media as well as other guests of honour from our school board and the Canadian Olympic Committee. Everyone is welcome, but there will be limited space in our gym to accommodate large numbers of spectators. All students are encouraged to wear red and white in support of our Canadian Olympic team. Go Canada Go!
